The current game started Monday August 13th and is running through Friday Jan 18. You can still join at any time, check rule 6- below.
Our next round kick off will be on Monday, January 28th and run through May 2nd. We thus kindly ask everybody to have their picks or at least the $100 funds in place with Elroy by Friday January 28th
Portfolio Rules:
1- The current round (#6) started on August 13th and ends on January 18th (Friday), a total of approx. 5 months. Any newcomers capable of teaching us vets a few things are welcome to join this new race for eternal fame. Latecomers can still join, see rule 6- below.
2- You start out with $100 fictive money, no real cash required. Initiate your position by buying or shorting a stock or announce your cash position, max 5 items incl. cash, to Elroy as usual before closing hours on Friday Aug 10, and further on any one of max two open market days a month as long as you get your order in before the close of trading that day. You get same day's closing price for your transaction.
You can also sell or cover a short on any (max 2) days a month the market is open, again as long as you get your orders in before the market close. Sell or cover all or none of your stock, no partial sales allowed! Sales and short covers pay a 1% commission on the amount as a trading cost. No trading cost for buys.
Sorry guys, but for technical reasons we cannot account for dividends in this competition, so just carry them to your bank with that smile ;)
You can trade any day you like, but you are limited to two (2) days of trading activity per month incl. initial picks. On any given day, you can do as many trades as you like (eg., cover a short, sell a holding, buy new stocks) but you can only be active on two days out of each month.
3- Stocks have to be US listed and trade on either Nasdaq or NYSE, no BBs, OBs, or PKs!
New rule: If a stock gets delisted, however, the owner can still keep the shares as long as they are traded and prices can be linked to Elroy's system
In clear language, still no purchases of bulletin boards or pinko sheets please, but you can keep your delisted picks as per above.
4- You can invest long or short (short: PP min $5 as usual, max one stock short and max 50% of the portfolio value shorted at any time) in equities - no options though - but you can also start out or sit in (all) cash if so preferred. Shorts will be valued as PP+(PP-DP). PP=Purchasing Price, DP=Price of the Day.
5- Max 50% of the total portfolio at most in any single stock, long or short, initially and upon buying or shorting at trading dates which are any of max 2 trading days every month. Your buy orders must be in no later than same day's market close. Initializing, holding or closing out your portfolio in all cash is allowed.
6- You can also join in the middle of a game, but your starting capital will be equal to the same day closing value of the person in last place minus $1. Post your picks - (long and short) or cash - during a trading day, and you get your picks at their closing prices that day. Remember: max. 5 items in total incl cash positions if any.
7- Each participant is responsible for following the rules above and we expect same rules to be followed without any need for board cops. Any "slimy maneuvering" (SM) will be punished by deduction of 2$ from the individual's portfolio. Our SM expert Elroy - he recently studied SM techniques in SE Asia - decides unless otherwise persuaded by the board. |
