Is 4G Wireless the next step after 3rd Generation wireless mobile systems or the alternative, or a supplement to 3rd Generation wireless mobile systems?
With IMT-2000 3G services still on the horizon, the industry is already looking to the next generation, and to technologies that complement and enhance 3rd Generation. Nokia has said that "so far a new technology has yet to appear that constitutes enough of a step beyond third-generation wireless to gain the tag 4G, while end-user demands have also yet to warrant its commercial development".
Today 4G is a vision or a concept that is beginning to be discussed by governments, research organizations. and wireless vendors although until recently there has also been little in the way of standardization initiatives for 4G.
