Return to The Donkey's Inn

This is a Moderated Forum for a small group of Democrats who have been unable to express political or economic opinion without harassment from bullies on open threads..

In this closed but small space we hope to find a safe harbor for political and economic discussions so I have limited the discussion on this thread to:

1) Tiger Paw
2) Patricia C. Trinchero
3) Kenneth E. Phillips

Statement by Chairman Terry McAuliffe on the Importance of Democracy

"Through many tests the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, the Great Depression and Vietnam our country has endured crisis and emerged stronger. Each time, we were emboldened by our shared values and sought comfort in the rituals of American life.

Even as we continue to honor the victims, console their families, thank the relief crews and prosecute the perpetrators, the time is also right for the exercise of democracy and civic activism."

Tighter Gun Laws Needed to Prevent Terrorism and Strengthen National Security

With passage of anti-terrorism legislation on October 12, Congress has taken a significant step toward ensuring that law enforcement has the tools needed to investigate and deter terrorist attacks. But there is one glaring omission - nothing in the bills passed by the House and Senate will close the gaps in our federal firearm laws that allow terrorists to amass their deadly arsenals.

"We know from recent terrorism investigations that these dangerous criminals will exploit any opening in our laws to buy weapons, including firearms," said SarahBrady, Chair of the Brady Campaign. "In some cases, they have gone to gun shows and bought firearms and ammunition from unlicensed sellers who were not required to conduct criminal background checks.

Two excellent columns have recently exposed how terrorists have exploited our weak gun laws to obtain weapons.

1) Boston Globe columnist Tom Oliphant, "Lax gun laws help terrorists."

2) Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini, "Terrorist Guns
Being Supplied By U.S. Patriots."
