For 50 consecutive years Dave appeared at the Newport (RI) Jazz Festival. It's where I 1st saw him perform summer of 1958. I saw him there for the 3rd time in 1971. He last performed at Newport in 2010 at age 89. Dave's death yesterday in Norwalk CT, a day before his 92nd birthday was the inspiration for starting this board.
