Return to E-Mini Pit

The E-Mini Pit

If you currently trade, or are interested in learning to trade, the CME E-Minis, this thread is for you. As opposed to just another market direction discussion thread, our focus here will be on providing a traders resource of specific information on the E-Minis, including discussions of brokers, trading platforms, order types, trading methodologies, money management techniques, futures-specific tax issues, etc. In addition, please post your trades, but please include your reasoning, so we can all learn. Links to charts, articles, seminars, and other message boards dealing with E-Minis or futures trading are encouraged. Also, please check this original post from time to time to see any new links we post here and to check out The Post of the Day, which will be selected from daily contributions to the board.

POST OF THE DAY:
Message #480 from the-phoenix at Feb 11, 2002 7:44 PM

Enclosed is a bulletin from the CME explaining the exchange failure last Friday afternoon:
MEMORANDUM

TO: All GLOBEX Users
FROM: John M. Restivo, Director GLOBEX Control Center
DATE: Saturday, February 09, 2002
SUBJECT:System Update #3 Suspension of Trading due to Market Dissemination issues

CAUSE: On Friday, February 08, 2002 at 2:34 PM CT, the processes responsible for delivery of all market data for GLOBEX instruments stopped processing. This was due to a file size limit being exceeded within the operating system.

RESPONSE: Emergency e-mails, voice mails, and TUG pages were sent and updated when appropriate. Senior staff was notified and the operations staff began the process of restoring service to all users. It was determined that the processes could not be repaired prior to the close of the markets. Updates to all notification points were made to inform users that trading would be suspended at 2:55 PM CT.

RESOLUTION: Development specialists will investigate this failure to determine the exact nature of its cause, and will then make a recommendation to senior staff on a permanent solution. In the interim, beginning Sunday, February 10, 2002, we will be eliminating the full market depth in ALL markets (same practice currently used in the ES & NQ markets). The 5 deep instrument summary book will still be available in ALL markets. Additionally, we will be proactively monitoring the file sizes in question to insure they do not reach critical levels.

If you have any questions, please call the GCC at 312-456-2391 option 2.
