- You can also join in the middle of a game at any Friday at any time but your starting capital will be equal to the same day closing value of the person in last place minus $1. Post your picks - (long and short) or cash - during your choice of trading Friday, and you get your picks at their closing prices that same day. Check 6 - below for further details.
Portfolio Rules:
1- The current competition (Round #9) started on Dec 5th and runs through Friday, March 20th, 2009, a total of 14 weeks.
2- You start out with $100 fictive money, no real cash required. Initiate your position by buying or shorting a stock, or announce your cash position, max 5 items incl. cash, to Elroy as usual before closing hours on Friday, Dec 5th, and further on any Friday, as long as you get your order in before the close of trading that Friday. Same Friday's closing price for your transaction applies.
You can also sell or cover a short on same trading Fridays, again as long as you get your orders in before the market close of that Friday. Sales and short covers pay a 1% commission on the amount as a trading cost. No trading costs for buys. Sorry guys, but for technical reasons we cannot account for dividends in this competition, so just carry them to your bank with that smile ;)
3- "Stocks" means US listed stock and traded on either Nasdaq or NYSE incl. NYSE Alternext U.S. No BBs, OBs, PKs, ETFs or similar please! If a stock gets delisted during the game, however, the owner can still keep the shares as long as they are traded and prices can be linked to Elroy's system In clear language, still no purchases of bulletin boards or pinko sheets, but if delisted during a round you can still keep your picks as per the rule above.
4- You can invest long or short (short: PP min $5 as usual, max one stock short and max 50% of the portfolio value shorted at any time) in equities - no options though - but you can also start out or sit in (all) cash if so preferred. Shorts will be valued as PP+(PP-DP). PP=Purchasing Price, DP=Price of the Day.
5- Max 50% of the total portfolio at most in any single stock, long or short, initially and upon buying or shorting on your trading date of choice, which is one Friday only your pick every month. No partial sales or buys, please. But you can always liquidate all your holdings, long or short, and buy/short any stock including your previous holdings at the closing price of your trading Friday of choice. Your buy orders must be in no later than same day's market close. Initializing, holding or closing out your portfolio in all cash is allowed.
6- You can also join in the middle of a game at any Friday at any time but your starting capital will be equal to the same day closing value of the person in last place minus $1. Post your picks - (long and short) or cash - during your choice of trading Friday, and you get your picks at their closing prices that same day. Remember: max. 5 items in total incl cash positions if any.
7- Each participant is responsible for following the rules above and we expect same rules to be followed without any need for board cops. Any "slimy maneuvering" (SM) will be punished by deduction of 2$ from the individual's portfolio. Our SM expert Elroy, now an established pro in Far East SM tactics, decides in each case unless outruled by the majority of our board. |
