This board is dedicated to our little contest on best picks of listed stock for a $100 fictive portfolio.
Our first competition took place 11/14/2005 through 02/28/2006.
Following the unique example of Custer, the honor of our only 2nd player to obtain his 2nd win, this time in our competition nbr 18 'Coug's Memorial' *), went to our previous winner of round nbr. 13, jmiller099. Thus, and as the 2nd player only, he became the proud member of our exclusive club of 'WW' veterans.
Our most recent winner epicure slowly but well planned moved up from the upper ranks to win our 20. round in a narrow finish beating our legacy and Master Elroy... man, lo siento, péro... always open the door for any woman getting close to the passage you may be blocking, right?. Any woman??? I don' think so, her' being our sole contender with THREE STARS!!!

2. Max 5 positions picks at any time, each of the 5 positions being long, short or cash, no more than 50% value of any long or short position.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY TUESDAY OR FRIDAY, BUT NO NO MORE THAN 4 TUES- OR FRIDAYS EACH MONTH AND PLAYER, ARE GOOD FOR YOUR TRADING!!
Let me repeat that again, no more than four of the above specified weekdays of trading per month for each player!
- Sorry, but newcomers can no longer join in the middle of our game -
Portfolio Rules (please note a slight - underlined - modification to rule 3):
1- This competition, the "Round 20 started Monday, Nov 5th and run through Friday, Feb 22nd, 2013, a total of approx. 17 weeks.
2- You start out with $100 fictive money, no real cash required. Initiate your position by buying or shorting a stock, or announce your cash position, max 5 items - long, short or cash - , to Elroy as usual before closing hours on a last Friday before a competition kick off - or "I'm in for $ 100" by the following Monday, and further on any of max. 4 monthly 'trading days' (see header above) of your choice, as long as you get your order in before the close of trading that day. Same day's closing price for your transaction applies.
You can also sell or cover a short on same trading weekdays, again as long as you get your orders in before the market close of that day. Sales and short covers pay a 1% commission on the amount as a trading cost. No trading costs for buys. Sorry guys, but for technical reasons we cannot account for dividends in this competition, so just carry them to your bank with that smile ;)
3- "Stocks" means US listed stock and traded on either Nasdaq or NYSE incl. NYSE Alternext U.S. No BBs, OBs, PKs, ETFs or similar please!
If a stock gets delisted during the game, however, the owner must sell the shares or cover the shorts of said stock and will get the closing value of the next regular trading day. In clear language, no purchases of or holding on to bulletin board or pinko sheet stocks!
4- You can invest long or short (short: PP min $5 as is mostly the rule in the real investment world, but you can also start out or sit in (all) cash if so preferred. Shorts will be valued as PP+(PP-DP). PP=Purchasing Price, DP=Price of the Day.
5- Max 50% of the total portfolio at most in any single stock, long or short, initially and upon buying or shorting on your trading date of choice, which is one trading day only your choice every month. No partial sales of a position and no additions to an existing position.
But you can always - on a trading day - liquidate all your holdings, long or short, and buy/short any stock including your previous holdings at the closing price of same or any later trading day of choice. Your buy orders must be in no later than same day's market close. Initializing, holding or closing out your portfolio in all cash is allowed.
6- Post your picks - (long and short) or cash - during your choice of trading day, and you get your picks at their closing prices that same day. Remember: max. 5 items in total incl cash positions if any.
7- Each participant is responsible for following the rules above and we expect same rules to be followed without any need for board cops. Also make sure getting the symbols right or your whole transaction of that time may be declared void.
Should someone, however, by mistake enter an illegal order which is refused, then he will be allowed to put in a new order the next day.
No cheating, please! Any such slimy pieces of action will be punished by deduction of 2$ from the individual's portfolio. Our deep undercover cheatings investigating copper Elroy decides in such cases unless outruled by the majority of our board. |
