I understand the USA is deeply divided between Democrats, liberals and even a few conservatives on one side and MAGA Republicans on the other side.The two sides rarely engage in genuine dialogue with one another. What I usually hear are insults, hatred and flame wars emanating from one side to the other. This is also a recurring feature on SI. Almost all political threads are extremely partisan in nature with moderators on one side quickly banning people on the other side of the spectrum. Tolerance and open dialogue are discouraged. What matters is whether you support President Biden or Trump. Logic and genuine conversation is nowhere to be found. The hatred for the other candidate is so thick that all respect and fundamental decency is abolished for those posters who choose to question the underlying assumptions and principles of the other party.
I would like to try something different here. Although I would classify myself as a liberal Democrat, I have been highly critical of the Party and Joe Biden, in particular at times.
There is an election coming up in 7 months and I want to discuss the issues rationally and logically from both points of view without engaging in insults and flaming towards other posters. It seems to me that most of the USA and Silicon Investor feels extremely alienated and hostile to what is important to the other side. But deep down, I think we all feel that we need to take a break from the hostility and try to get along. And if we cannot see eye to eye, at least be respectful. Insults, flaming, hatred are taxing and not healthy.
If we can pull this off, it will be the only political thread on SI that is not only open to those who support Biden and Trump, but is not full of hatred, flaming and insults.
I promise not to ban anybody for their pro Trump or pro Biden views, but will only do so for personal insults, hatred and flaming and then only after a warning has been given.
It is ok to critique ideas.
