Three of the former Soviet Union's largest hydroelectric dams are the subject of a power struggle between the Kremlin and powerful Oligarchs. In need of repairs, the giant dams sell power at low prices. The company owns a fleet of aging heat power stations in need of moderization but the company is cash poor. IrkutskEnergo shares have had a good run as powerful concerns have bid up the share price trying to get control of the hydroelectric plants.
