Ampex is a pioneer in digital imaging technology with several international patents that have become standard components of such digital imaging devices as video cameras, still cameras, DVD recorders, and possibly camera phones, HDTV, and set top boxes. Its technology was developed for such purposes as the gathering and storage of military intelligence and astrophysics research, in which it still plays an important role. Ampex has recently signed licensing agreements for its ultra-sophisticated patents with several of the largest players in the commercial digital imaging markets and is continuing to pursue such agreements with others.
Ampex is one of the original Silicon Valley technology companies, with a long and distinguished history in the field of applied magnetics. Its audio tape recorders were industry standard. It invented the video tape recorder, and licensed its VTR technology to all the top Japanese manufacturers, who continue to license its digital patents. It has garnered hundreds of patents and many awards and acclamations from the military, entertainment, commercial, and industrial fields for over sixty years. |
