OK, I understand the new limitations and I really don't like them. The killer is that we are now limited to about 32K per post. My lists, by the end of the quarter are running in the neighborhood of 400K. A blivet is known as 6 pounds of refuse in a 5 pound bag. We're voting on what to do.... Options I've thought of are...
1> post weekly summaries. I refuse on this one. There is too little information in a week to make it worthwhile.
2> e-mail "interested parties" the lists. I'm not too wild about this one either.
3> find some kind person to host my lists and just link over there. This thread would then be effectively defunct except for things like the Project Hunt reports.
4> something someone else suggests.
Please PM me with suggestions. I've also posted this issue over on the G&K thread.
Yours in frustration Erick
READ THIS As of 7/1/00 the formatting is behaving badly. Previously, the lists would be shown as a pretty table. I haven't opened one in a while, (I write them after all), but when I did this morning you see the raw HTML rather than the formatted type (Windows NT, IE5). I'll let you know when this is resolved, but don't hold your breath<G>
As any followers of the most excellent Gorilla's and Kings Portfilio Thread know, there are a TON of messages posted on that board. This thread is dedicated to lists of posts from the G&K portfolio thread that are of particular interest to the editor. While I am taking primary responsibility for this thread, I would invite others who have compiled lists of interesting posts on the G&K thread to consider adding them to this thread.
Please make every effort to keep the number of posts here to a minimum. One of the tenets of the G&K approach is that we don't need to be in a hurry. In that spirit, it is perfectly reasonable to accumulate lists for a month or two before adding them. I will be happy to serve as a moderator for this process. While I don't own this thread, I ask other posters to respect this intent. The G&K thread has high standards of civility and respect that I would like to have become the norm on this thread as well. Please help out.
How my lists are organized. All of my lists will contain the word EricksList in the title, followed by the time period. For instance:
EricksList: Jan, 2000 EricksList: Jan-Feb, 2000 EricksList: Q1, 2000
My lists will accumulate for one quarter, then start fresh. Each list is divided into two sections, one sorted by company and one sorted by author. The message number from the G&K thread is a hyperlink to that message. Clicking the hyperlink should open up a new browser window and take you to the post.
The note section is a short summary of the post. I have attempted to give a reasonable summary of what the post is about. If I have seriously misrepresented one, please let me know. I'm spinning through the posts very quickly, so mistakes will happen. I'm also leaving out posts thatI think are "substantially similar" to one already in the list in the interests of brevity. Even at that, they'll be pretty big <G>.
I am attempting to restrict my lists to analysis/penetrating questions about specific companies, with a very small number of more "general interest" sort of posts. I am specifically not listing etiquette posts, general discussion posts, banter etc. While I value the community feel of the G&K thread, I personally am most interested in being able to go back and find posts relevant to the investment quality of a particular company. That is my primary filter for chosing particular posts to include.
When each list is posted, I'll post on the G&K thread and link over to the latest list.
The G&K thread is at: Subject 25851 New readers of the G&K thread are strongly encouraged to follow the advice posted on the G&K intro page before entering into debates on the G&K thread.
Finally, please DO NOT post questions about any of the posts in any of these lists on this board. The G&K Portfolio thread is the appropriate forum for discussing the individual posts. Please send me a Private Message (PM) with questions, corrections, etc. rather than posting them here.
I hope you find these lists useful. The first list will be on or about 2/1/00, with a new list being posted on the first (or so) of each month thereafter.
