Return to PSDV - pSivida Limited

What is it?

From their Web Site -

pSivida is committed to the biomedical sector and developing products in healthcare. Its focus is the development and commercialization of a new biomaterial, nanostructured porous silicon (BioSilicon™), for multiple potential applications in healthcare with a core focus on drug delivery. pSivida's strategic partner is QinetiQ, the former United Kingdom Government Defence Evaluation & Research Agency (DERA) and Europe 's largest research and development organization.

How I bumped into it.
From a Motley article that I can't find at the moment.

Why follow it?
Just one reason.

I am overtly trying to get some of the smart people
(I ain't one of them) who post on the biotech boards
to pay more attention to nanotechnology + biotech stuff.

i.e. the convergence of the two ....

Why?

Today is 11/2/2005

There was a guy on Charle Rose last night that's out
with a book that fundamentally says somewhere around
2045 - human intelligent machines will be a billion
- thats *billion* - times smarter than us.

Note:
He *defined* intelligent as the capability of
a machine to *knowingly* smile and frown.

By around 2045 (his best guess) it will put us in a "transitional* period.

If this all sounds *implausable* the magic is that the machines will build the machines ......
we're not in the loop and hence thats why it will
only take another 40 years.

Additionally, no one can predict where this thinking capability will take us.

He said our first link up with machines is the implant
device used for Parkinson patients. And that we have
reached phase 2 of that in that the software needed
to run the implanted device (or change their functionality)can NOW be downloaded outside the human brain.

i.e. Updated externally.

What really concerns me is that it makes it sound
like Moores Law is arcane versus whats coming.

I have no opinion about this company. Its just a
way for me to stick my toe in the nano+biotech
waters and hope at some point it grabs the
eyes of some other folks here.

Finally, if you run into ANY Nano+Biotech article/trial/
whatever please post it here.

Also - this board is moderated and I will kill off
any posts about so and so is going to the moon Alice.
