IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL USERS:

It is very important that you activate your account on the new site, or risk losing access to Silicon Investor later this month when the switch to that platform occurs. You will not be able to PM for assistance at that point, since you must first login to send a PM!

If you do not remember your login information:

After you login to the current production site, there is a link at the top of siliconinvestor.com which will lead to a page where you can retrieve your login username and password. You should the use that to login to the new site and activate your account.

Note: As of today (9/01/04) there is a known bug in the Options/My_Account tool on the new site. If you get an error when you try to access or update your information (, please try back in a day or two. You will be able to update your email address, password, and Alias using My_Account. You can also view your account status.

Current Status (last updated 9/01/04):

The current time line (subject to change) calls for both sites to come down after the market close on Friday 9/24 and the new site to come up sometime before the market open the following Monday (hopefully by Saturday evening). The timing of the new site coming up depends upon how long it takes to import all of the data, and getting the domain routing changed.

Almost all of the data will be refreshed to the new site that weekend, except for the public and private message tables, and the user database. Those get incremental updates.

There won't be any access to the "old" site after the switch occurs. That means there will be no access to portfolios. However, the portfolio data will be saved in the event that a new portfolio tool is made available at a later date.

Also, there is no provision being made for the Clubhouse threads, although the data will be preserved in the chance they get resurrected in some form at a later date.

Using the Development Site:

All user changes made to the development site should be considered temporary, except for changes made in "Options". In other words, the following activities on the development site are temporary and will be reset or deleted from the development site during an interim update and/or the final movement of data from the production site.

- Posts (and other changes) to the Dev site NEVER get moved to the live site... and never will.

- Posts (and other) changes to the Dev site get deleted before each import from the live site.

- Imports are run periodically - from once every few hours to once every few days.

Project Queue:

You can view some* of the items already in the Go-Live project Queue at:

dev.siliconinvestor.com

*Please be advised that this is not an all-inclusive list; many projects are not included in the public view since they may contain proprietary or otherwise sensitive information not suitable for the public domain.

New User Interface:

The current objective is to get onto the new platform and off of the current one ASAP. Some current features, such as "Preview" and "Spell Checker" will not be active when the move to the new site occurs. However, they will be made available in relatively short order. Similarly, the UI will be very customizable by the user, however, that again will be implemented some time after go-live. Customizable features include font style and sizes, colors, format and order of lists, number of items in various lists, placement of elements, etc.
