Return to The Vortex

Subject: The Great Transition.

Energy cost, climate change, population growth, and environmental degradation are parallel trends, on the rise. Their collective impact is already changing our lives; future effects will be profound.

Fundamental changes in ideation influence populations directly and indirectly. Disciplines such as economics and psychology contribute empirical data and changing theories, yet are not science. Not in the same sense as physics, which is itself flawed by inconsistencies.

Particularly, this thread is devoted to the argument at its best: reason supported by evidence. The hierarchy of evidence is known to all. It may be your belief that the sun won't rise tomorrow, and you may argue convincingly. But for every day in recorded time the sun has risen, and any contrary conclusion would benefit from supporting evidence. Can you support your reasoning?

You are expected to make your own argument, not copy or link to someone else's work except in support. So this thread will be different.

There will be no political or religious advocacy. None. Not even by link. We can discuss the rise of Communism or Christianity as phenomena. We can analyze the spread of radical Islam and globalization, but promotion has no place here. It will get you banned. So will derogatory remarks about others. If you can't participate in an objective discussion, go somewhere else.

The Vortex is an experiment that may fail. Whether it succeeds depends on contributors' quality of thought and expression.

Over the next few weeks I'll post introductory themes.

Thanks,

Jim
