Return to A letter to Monica (Edwarda)

Dear Monica:

Since you left, your friends have missed you very much. Some of them are really devastated at the abruptness with which you went. However, there has been an outpouring of love and sympathy, and you would be pleased to know that you helped to bring SI together for awhile, with love for you, and sorrow at your passing.

Although we never had our dinner on the 4th of July, I watched the fireworks in Times Square and thought of you, lighting the sky too briefly, then falling into silence. Before I left for home, I went over to Brooklyn to look around where you lived. I forgot the address, and missed your precise neighborhood, but I will go back.

I am sorry that I could not make the funeral, but I had family obligations. However, I have been diligently finding information on the theater you supported, Blue Heron, and can report that we are pretty far along in trying to think of a fitting memorial contribution. I definitely have the pledge of a plaque in your honor, whatever the final gift goes to. I cannot finish negotiation until the dollar amount of the fund in your honor is clear. Neeny and shootie have helped enormously collecting funds.

Individual checks can be sent to the Director of the Blue Heron, Ardelle Striker, who told me:

Checks may be made out to Blue Heron Theatre,Inc. or Blue Heron Arts Center. Be sure name and address of donor included since these are tax deductible charitable contributions, and we will acknowledge each individually. Address correspondence to Ardelle Striker at Blue Heron Theatre, Inc, 123 East 24th Street, NY,NY 10010.

People should be sure that they make it clear they are contributing to the Monica Timmons Memorial Fund. I have also consented, by PM, to take a few checks to "bundle" myself, for those who want extra insurance they are counted properly.

We have over $3000 there or on its way. I fear that we will not make $5000, but I have been assured of cooperation to fund something nice, and will begin talking about that point when all of the money is in.

I got an e-mail from Gary Bernstein at Blue Heron, inviting SI members to come to a Finch College get together, a play party, as it were:

"Also wanted to let you know that the Finch College group has planned their night of theatre and dinner on Thursday, Oct. 19 ..7 PM Cocktails/8 PM Show/9:30 prix fix dinner at a nearby restaurant. Tickets to reception&show/$50 and dinner is $20 extra. Ceil Ainsworth is sending out
cards this week. I am sure friends of Monica would be welcome. We also would enjoy meeting you and your collegues as well. The play is called Sacred Journey."

For more information, people should call 212-979-5000.

Your pal, Neocon

PS A lot of additional money has been pledged, and is on its way. I have already received almost $2000, before shootie has been able to send from that fund, and it looks like we may be close to $5000, although some more participation would ensure that. I am moved by how generous your friends have been..........
