Return to SLS Industries (SLSI) Info (Hold the explosions, please)

SLS Industries has designed and is beginning to sell the worlds first
electronic ballast for High intensity Discharge lamps.
The ballast generates much less heat and noise than a standard
mechanical ballast, lasts longer, and weights less.

A ballast is essentially a fancy power supply converts the AC power
into a form that is suitable for starting and running the lamp
that it is attached to.

Normal mechanical ballasts run at the same frequency as the
AC line, 60 cycles/sec in the US and 50 cycles/sec overseas.
The human eye can see flicker at these frequencies.
The UNIDIM ballasts run at about 40,000 cycles/sec, and thus there
is no flicker.
