SLS Industries has designed and is beginning to sell the worlds first electronic ballast for High intensity Discharge lamps. The ballast generates much less heat and noise than a standard mechanical ballast, lasts longer, and weights less. A ballast is essentially a fancy power supply converts the AC power into a form that is suitable for starting and running the lamp that it is attached to. Normal mechanical ballasts run at the same frequency as the AC line, 60 cycles/sec in the US and 50 cycles/sec overseas. The human eye can see flicker at these frequencies. The UNIDIM ballasts run at about 40,000 cycles/sec, and thus there is no flicker. This discussion group is for due diligence info and links. No unsupported hype please.
