You're probably right on the pirates. There's a (joking) saying in the Navy: "It's not gay if it's underway" and I imagine that has applied more or less truthfully for a long time. Especially back in the good ole days of sailing when voyages could last years.

That's a long, long time to spend with just a bunch of hairy, sweaty guys that didn't believe in bathing.

Yeah, I'd definitely have to say that a lot of Joe's appeal lies in his self confidence. It's his self-confidence and his readiness to point out the ridiculous behavior of the street that makes me respect what he says.

Thanks for the shopping idea. I need to pick up a few new shirts, and I'm working on a new pirette right now. Maybe I'll see if I can talk her into it in a few weeks, assuming all goes well. I have noticed that it does take some commitment, like you said...I've asked different girlfriends before and not many took me up on it.

It's interesting, though, in retrospect...the various responses I got seem to be indicative not only of their personality but also of the quality of the relationship. The girl that took me up on it the most enthusiastically was probably the pushiest girl I've dated (although none have been that bad on an absolute scale), but it was also probably the most hopeless (just would never work) relationship I've been in. In the better relationships I've been in, it seems the girls have been relatively uninterested in going shopping.

Hmmmmm.....
Something more to ponder.

P.S.-- Have you ever read "The Tree of Knowledge?" Anything you can tell me about it?
