I can't stomach the thought of SI just disappearing one day. What a real loss that would be. There is SO much information in these posts it's simply incredible. The history alone is worth the price you've outlined. If the site is really hurting financially as much as has been expressed here. I am simply flabergasted they have not made a real effort to generate more revenue. Selling a CDROM databases should be a no-brainer to accomplish in less than 3 months for a tech company. Along with ALL kinds of other items. Every penny counts when you're a dot-com company struggling to stay afloat. And management should realize that.
