mindmeld,

a "salesargument" for SAP as well as other ERP vendors is that since some time organisations, instead of fixing their legacy COBOL stuff, just straight look into replacing ancient planning software with newly desinged ERP system like SAP, PSFT or alike.

But those decisions, I think, have been made already, as it takes quite some time to implement a new software. Consider only one third project cost are the software, the other two thirds are consulting and implementation, in many cases. Think about training needs. Also often the organisation has to change to be able to use productive planning (it helps not to computerize a bad organisation).

So the Y2K issue may have helped the ERP vendors for some time, I believe no more big changes in sales anticipation are warranted now, end 1998. The planed sales will get through.
