WorldCom U.K. Director McLeod to Quit Company at End of Year
London, Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- WorldCom Inc.'s U.K. division said Rob McLeod, managing director, has resigned and will leave the company at the end of the year.
A spokeswoman for WorldCom in the U.K. said McLeod's departure, first reported in The Independent newspaper today, after three years with the company was ''amicable'' and that he made the decision for personal reasons.
The spokeswoman denied that McLeod's departure in any way threatens the company's business prospects in the U.K., where it is challenging dominant phone company British Telecommunications Plc.
''The size of the organization is big enough now that we have management in depth,'' said the spokeswoman.
She said the company is looking both inside and outside for a replacement for McLeod. Meanwhile she said Michael Butler has been appointed deputy U.K. managing director.
WorldCom's $46 billion purchase of MCI Communications Corp. is likely to win U.S. Federal Communications Commission approval soon, clearing the way for the marriage of the second and fourth largest U.S. long-distance telephone companies.
