Twister, I do not think anyone with half a brain would argue that INTC and MSFT are not worthy competitors. Indeed, I seriously doubt this fact is lost on Scott McNealy. He seems to have a great deal of respect for each. (or at least INTC)

Now, as far as the fact that SUNW has lagged MSFT and INTC recently, I would argue this: Most people, yourself included, do not understand technology very well. As a result, people turn to techno-pundits for advice. Lately, the pundits have proclaimed Windows NT to be the end all OS. This has pushed INTC/MSFT up at unsustainable rate IMO.

To be sure, INTC and MSFT are fine companies with good products. The same applies to Sun. NT will be a threat in a couple of years if Sun ignores them. (for NOVL it could be the end) SUNW is poised to dominate the most lucrative areas of the server business, the BIG, mission critical type data houses.

As to the benefits of JAVA, I would argue that mindshare is important and will get Sun sales reps in doors that would previously have been closed. Scott, has said as much.

Sun will be fine.

Cheers,
Daniel
