Pretty decent analysis. Your valence description is the classic description of the Bellcore licenced technology. ULBI is also a bellcore licensee as you mentioned and is essentially using the same technology. Both use a graphite for the anode and a lithiated Mn2O4 for the cathode.

The description polymer electrolyte is really a crude description. The only "true" polymer electrolyte is the cell that 3M is working on. Additionally ( you may already know this) all of these technologies are outgrowths of the lithium ion chemistry pioneered by Sony. i.e. they work on shuttling the lithium ion back and forth from the carbon anode, to the cobalt, nickel or Mn2O4 based cathode. i.e. none of the systems in commercial use today use lithium metal except the one made by Tadiran (i believe)
