AC might be a good application for solar panels. They don't generate enough juice for much of anything else. But AC systems, especially ones with "Economy" mode like my Camry had, really don't consume much power at all.

There would be an indirect benefit, though. When you're coasting with your foot off the throttle, the fuel supply to the engine is completely cut *unless* you have the AC on, which kicks up the idle just a bit. So if the idle step-up requirement comes out of the picture, it could improve fuel economy by at least continuing to let cars cut off the fuel when your foot is off the gas but the car is still rolling.
