I believe AFS will be direct competition for Ballard, at least on the automotive side of things. (Ballard has also developed fuel cells for stand alone applications like power generators for buildings, etc.)

The problem of reforming Hydrogen from other sources is a difficult one, however, AFS does not necessarily have to address this problem directly. There are many companies out there working on developing practical & affordable methods of extracting hydrogen. AFS only needs to develop the engine technology to run on Hydrogen so that as the Hydrogen infrastructure evolves, they are ready to profit from it.

If the availability of Hydrogen is equal for fuel cell equipped vehicles and AFS equipped vehicles then I believe AFS has the cost advantage and may be the more realistic solution for a long time. Eventually (2 to 3 decades), I think fuel cells will win out. They are more energy efficient and will some day be affordable (I hope).

I'm still long on AFS.
Regards,
Mike
