SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert B. Spertell, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Scientist and VP Technology, has announced that MW Medical, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MWMD - news) has ordered its initial supply of Microwave Delivery Systems (MDS) from its preferred supplier, Electromatic, Inc. (ETM), Newark, CA. (www.etm-inc.com).
MW Medical Inc. (www.mwmd.com) has been working with ETM over the last few years to further develop the MDS, and ETM produced the first four prototype units used to complete the Phase 1, 11 and III clinical trials.
ETM's mission is to help their customers succeed by providing high-value, technical solutions. These solutions span a wide range of microwave tube systems from satellite communications and susceptibility testing to microwave tube testing and custom system applications, including radar, threat emitter, tropo-scatter, high-power component testing and deep space communication applications.
The MDS will initially use a traveling wave tube (TWT), manufactured by Teledyne, assembled by ETM and controlled by specially designed components. Developing microwave power for use in cosmetic minimally invasive surgery is a less complicated task for ETM as compared to the wide range of products they manufacture. ETM has also contracted with MW Medical to further develop alternative power sources that will result in future products being lighter, smaller and less expensive to produce.
MW Medical anticipates delivery on the first orders in July 1999. MW Medical has filed for FDA approval for hair removal indications and plans to file for additional indications as the clinical trials are completed. The other indications include the treatment of telangiectasias (spider veins), orbital facial wrinkles and stretch marks (Striae Distensia).
The initial value of the order is $2.5 million. MW Medical is planning to produce up to 1,500 MDS systems, using the TWT system assembled by ETM over the next 18 months.
