Culture, history, viniculture and cuisine, is not enough to keep a country an economic front runner. Look at Italy. Asia (except Japan) has the right idea, growth like crazy and let the family act as the safety net. But what can you expect from the country who gave the world the Vichy government-courage to face reality? Their last act of military might was to take on a Greenpeace raft in the South Seas so they could fire off a nuke. Communists have a voice in govt, for God's sake! Now there's a solution for high unemployment--bring in the reds! The Greece analogy gets even stronger.
