Virgin Express Holdings plc (Nasdaq: VIRGY, Brussels: VIR) reported today a 71.2% load factor in scheduled service in October 1997 versus 57.2% in October 1996. Revenue passenger miles in scheduled service increased 144% in October 1997 to 84.4 million compared to 34.6 million revenue passenger miles a year ago. Scheduled capacity increased 95.9% in October 1997 to 118.5 million available seat miles versus 60.5 million in the prior October. Passengers flown in scheduled service increased 197.1% to 173,250 in October 1997 versus 58,306 in October 1996.

Chief Executive Jonathan Ornstein said "We are pleased with these results as we have significantly grown our scheduled services and concurrently improved our load factor. We are experiencing higher traffic levels in all our markets, particularly our routes from Brussels to Copenhagen and from Rome to Madrid and Barcelona. In addition, the Virgin Express team has improved on-time performance to 79% this October as compared to 69% in October 1996."
