Merge Technologies Announces Further Patent
Coverage and First Commercial Release of
CaseWorks

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1999--Merge Technologies Incorporated (NASDAQ: MRGE - news)
today announced that the United States Patent Office on September 7, 1999 awarded to Merge patent number 5,950,207 for
a ``Computer Based Multimedia Medical Database Management System and User Interface.' This patent extends the
coverage of previous patent number 5,740,428 granted on April 14, 1998 for a total of 104 claims relating to the technologies
underlying Merge's CaseWorks, ExamWorks and ReportWorks healthcare practitioner workflow products. Patents for these
technologies have also been applied for and are pending in many foreign countries.

``It is particularly timely we should receive our final CaseWorks patent at the time of our first commercial release of the
product,' according to William C. Mortimore, President and CEO of Merge. ``CaseWorks was originally slated for Q2 1998
delivery, but in working with our clinical development site, we discovered that the addition of several key features to
CaseWorks' patented image selection technology would create a far more powerful product.'

``We added technologies we licensed from Interpra Medical Imaging Network Ltd. of Toronto, Canada,' said Michael J.
Franco, Merge's Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer. ``These included voice to text report generation,
report management and billing support - all built upon a patent pending web-enabled Java-based healthcare data repository
technology know as Iweb. The success of the CaseWorks effort was key in our decision to acquire Interpra earlier this month.'

Merge Technologies Incorporated is a global leader in the drive toward an integrated healthcare enterprise. The Company's
