DSR Partners With Diversinet To Provide Security Software For Wireless E-Commerce WAP Applications In Europe
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1999--(NASDAQ:DVNT - news; CANADIAN DEALING NETWORK:DVNT.)

Diversinet's WAP-compatible security solution enables DSR gateway to provide a wide range of mobile data services including wireless banking, stock trading and shopping

Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ Small Cap; DVNT; CDN: DVNT), a leader in security software for wireless e-commerce applications, and Dynamical Systems Research (DSR), a pioneer in developing wireless data solutions, announced today that they are working together to develop a comprehensive security solution for DSR's Catapult WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) gateway.

DSR has agreed to license Diversinet's Passport Certificate Server for use with Catapult. By offering digital certificates with its WAP gateway, DSR enables wireless network operators to provide subscribers with a variety of wireless e-commerce applications, such as banking and stock trading, in a secure environment. Digital certificates authenticate both the content provider (such as a brokerage firm) and the end user to safeguard wireless transactions.

WAP is the de facto standard protocol for transmitting data applications across wireless networks. Most major manufacturers of wireless infrastructure equipment and handsets around the world will offer WAP-compatible products. Analysts predict that by 2003 there will be more than 1 billion wireless phones worldwide, and as many as 50 percent will be able to access data services.

''Mobile banking and transaction based services will be a major growth area for the wireless industry, and by using Diversinet's certificate software DSR enables WAP service providers to generate additional revenue channels for banking and mobile commerce,'' says Dr. Janko Mrsic-Flogel, managing director of DSR in London.

Early next year DSR and Diversinet will begin piloting the use of digital certificates for the new generation of WAP phones, including the Nokia 7110. DSR and Diversinet will explore other wireless security ventures including the potential for establishing a new Certificate Authority for guaranteeing the validity of certificates.

Diversinet's newest Passport Certificate Server (Version 3.0) will be commercially available this month. The server supports certificates for WAP WTLS 1.1 (Wireless Transport Layer Security) as well as Diversinet's own certificates -- both of which are optimized for wireless phones and other resource-constrained devices.

''By working with DSR we gain a valuable partner in the European market who is an expert in the burgeoning WAP market,'' says Nagy Moustafa, president and CEO of Diversinet. ''Our relationship with DSR further enhances our leadership in providing security solutions, especially for WAP products, in the global wireless arena.''
