Man Charged After Holdup Note Found On Him

GULFPORT, Miss. (Reuters) - A man who was picked up for urinating in public was also charged with robbing a bank after
police found a holdup note in his pocket, the FBI said Wednesday.
Darryl Ellis, 23, of Gulfport, Mississippi, a beachfront community about 70 miles (112 km) south of Jackson, was initially
detained when police saw him urinating in public and took him in to charge him with disorderly conduct.
But when police asked him to empty his pockets at the station, they were astonished to find a holdup note. ''We're fortunate
that some of these crooks aren't too intelligent,'' Gulfport police Capt. Steve Barnes told the Biloxi, Mississippi newspaper
the Sun Herald.
Ellis has been charged with robbing People's Bank in nearby Pass Christian, Mississippi Monday.
FBI agent Harry Bowen told Reuters that Ellis, who was arrested by Gulfport police Tuesday, walked into the bank Monday
and handed a teller a note saying that he was armed. But he didn't get much money. ''Typically, we don't give out information
about how much was involved, but let me say it was a relatively small amount of money,'' Bowen said. |
