I like the idea of growing trees and selling the carbon credits to recoup the costs. I've wondered how much CO2 was put into the atmosphere AND not taken out by all the forests burned in the Amazon jungle... the idea I'm paying 4x for energy to reduce CO2 in a state that is less than 2% of the total CO2 emitted on the planet (not counting forest fires) while some places like the Amazon are burning down... you question if anyone without a financial or political interest has done the math to see where our dollars are best spent. For example, it might be cheaper to stick with cheap natural gas in California then pay farmers in the Amazon (or you!) to grow trees. We have people here in the hills that burn who heat their homes in the winter for nearly free with wood they cut on their land... while we pay a huge amount to not burn much cleaner burning natural gas. I used to use some of the wood on my land to heat my home in the winter but neighbors convinced me it was just as bad as smoking plus it made them all breath the smoke on cold, still air winter days.
