Doing meticulous work is hard.

It is ! My shortcut for years has been to look at good mutual funds, or index funds, and then buy the stocks within them that performed best. I let someone else do the hard work. That's what I call working the system. That, and a few tips like SQ and TSLA and FB from so long ago ... I am personally amazed that I have been able to get by with so little analysis. When I actually worked for a living I did lots of math and comparisons and someone else made most of the revenue from my analysis.

I have an engineering background, and I do think that knowing math, and deductive reasoning, and other skills of that trade helped me avoid scams and hustles, and that leaves room for luck.
