GZ, thanks for your comprehensive response

This gives me a better sense of how your system works; you are right that my system looks for the turn and it has to have occurred before I move in the direction of the turn. The other difference is that my system is definitely more short-term oriented than yours -- I could go short within an intermediate term uptrend and vice versa and I go flat when a certain profit objective is satisfied. In the process, I end up leaving some on the table but on a day like yesterday, I was fortunate in exiting not far from the lows for the day.

The other difference is that my system is completely rigid in terms of entry and exits -- totally mechanical.

I am curious about one thing -- you indicated that the cumulative a/d is used primarily to increase positions and yet during the recent run up you added contracts -- to the point where you had six contracts -- and yet the a/d was in the negative through most of that period as best as I recall. So is this the norm and subjective or was it a case of irrational exuberance coming to the fore:)

BTW, your explanation of the use of the cumulative a/d should help others on this thread who have been following this indicator closely and may have been wondering how you use it.
