I am sorry if it sounds personal or is partisan. I take it personally as I was once very, very proud to be thanked for saving 200 jobs for a couple of years by the manager of the San Jose CA fab that eventually closed down when I had to design the next chip with a different process. HP would not build another fab in the US and we saw thousands of very good jobs vanish from California.

Perhaps seeing decades of work vanish offshore and being told my job was to train engineers from Asia who moved her for 6 month shifts of training to do the jobs I used to train new graduates from MIT, CAL, Stanford, Rice, etc. to do before... was part of why I left engineering as it didn't have the satisfaction while my new "job" helps people in the US and Canada invest. Hard to say but it all adds up.
This is not a whole lot different than individuals try to hide cash from the IRS in foreign tax havens to avoid taxes.

No, most of that cash IS earned offshore. iPHones are built with chips made in Asia and sold outside the US. Taxes are paid in the countries where the transactions take place.

Tax havens are when a big bank that is now in trouble for tax evasion kept trying to get me to invest with them in exchange for moving my money offshore to "hint hint" avoid taxes.... I knew it was PROBABLY ILLEGAL and ignored it.
