In car business the secret of success is selling to family customers. Brand loyalty means the family buys more of the same brand; so, more models mean more cars sold.

When Lincoln had two models, they sols 18,000 cars a year. When they added and had five models to sell, production increased to 90,000 cars a year. Of course, Nissen had 9 models and had a huge success in their turn around attempt lately.

The obvious way for Ford to turn around is to have 9 models each for Lincoln, Mercury and Ford LTD, etc. This is done by cross over of Ford truck models(4 wheel drive sports cars). To finance it, Ford had to consolidate and sell off Mazda, Volvo and Jaguar, etc. ownership to focus on Ford in US and export all they can.
