Jeeze... it only took a couple of days from my suggestion in this post to learning Google may be working on the first steps already:
What if Google bought DISH then put satellite receivers on top of telephone and light poles in major cities and used wifi to broadcast the most popular YouTube channels for free and offered to sell subscriptions for regular DISH channels so those who get it at home would have access via wifi when on the road....

SUMMARY:
Google’s wireless ambitions may be taking a very business-like turn. According to The Information, Google plans to start selling cheap high-performance Wi-Fi gear to small businesses to help it build a giant wireless network.

But what’s most interesting is the technical development work it’s been doing in wireless. Over the last couple of years, Gigaom has spotted experimental license applications from Google to test new gigabit Wi-Fi technologies and even build what looks to be a small cell network similar to those mobile carriers have started deploying.
Google's DNA is to destroy profitable business models by providing information for nearly free we used to pay for and charging for advertising. Newspapers & magazines especially have all lost very profitable businesses and I've long felt the telecom companies could be next as wireless technology improves...
