Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced revenues of NT$60.79 billion (US$2.03 billion) for May, a decrease of 1.8% from the previous month but an increase of 17.4% from a year earlier. Accumulated revenues for the January-May period totaled NT$270.89 billion, increasing 15.5% from a year ago.
TSMC's June revenues are expected to drop slightly from May's, but second-quarter revenues will still be able to reach NT$180-183 billion as expected, according to an industry estimate.
A high base posted in April contributed to the slight sequential decline in revenues in May, said industry sources, adding that TSMC's second-quarter performance has been in line with expectations.
Products rolled out by its 28nm process are expected to account for 30% of TSMC's total sales in 2014, while the 20nm process technology is expected to contribute up to 20% to total revenues by year-end 2014, the sources noted.
