I agree about Carter being brilliant. He should have been a university professor, not president of the United States, however. He had no political skills at all, which was refreshing at first, but then just got bizarre and scary when he tried to negotiate for the hostages in Iran.

Stomping your foot and saying nothing else will happen until they are home, like he did, puts you in a much worse negotiating position and paints you into a corner, as well.
