Jack,

So many tradeoffs, so many extenuating circumstances, and random factors to calculate. Sounds like your family's structure provided the integrity needed to weather the stress and strain though - the critical joints that bound you together in the first place made it all possible. I think that was missing at our house when my sister and I were growing up for a multitude of reasons.
But, in my folks defense not all those factors were in their control - extenuating circumstances torpedoed the vessel.
