a section of code that does tons of pipeline flushes will obviously run faster on a shorter pipeline. Regarding how fast the decode logic works, Kap's program proves nothing.

Can you be more specific?

IMO, the code that Kap came up with is I think very good at isolating the decoder from the things you mention. I think we could just change the ADD instruction inside each of thos cases to something that is guaranteed to use the complex decoder or Piii to take care of a valid point wbmw came up with.

Another thing I would be curious about is how exactly the case statement is executed, and how the table for it is built up. I see these 2 as valid concerns. If you have any other concerns, let us know.
