That is probably my biggest gripe against all these Federal holidays is only "government workers" really get to benefit while working stiffs and those of us with large taxable stock gains and 401K distributions to take have to pay for it without getting any benefits for their working less.

I've been making this argument in some local forums and to some of the more "moderate democrat" writers here that the pension system with judges getting public pensions too is corrupt. The idea that politicians trade vote with the public employee unions for favorable pay and pension benefits gets harder and harder to reverse as government grows larger. Most really are clueless about the math so my feet get misty pissing into the wind.
