Good post. The long delay in the release of NT 5 <g> (Windows 2000) has in my mind, stalled the proliferation of smart cards (and in particular their use in PKI environments) in the US. Windows 2000 is HIGHLY smart card enabled. Password log was to become the non recommended option in Windows 2000 with smart card log on and authentication using portable credentials to become the recommended method.

I think we will see a lot more announcements like Schlumberger's in the near future.
