Fixed Income stuff: I bought a few shares of some individual fixed income issues that MAY be of interest to some of you. Each issue pays income monthly. Each is traded on the NYSE. The issues are ENE PRa (Enron Preferred A - 9.00%) ENE PRc (Enron Preferred C- 8.00%) XLC PR (USX Steel Preferred - 8.75%) ME PRa (Mission Energy Preferred A - 9.375%) The Enron issues are reacting to the current news and down significantly due to the negative news from the parent company. Each of these issues is currently callable, yet none of the issuers have chosen to redeem these shares in spite of prices that were well above the call price in the last 52 weeks. The market prices for each of these issues has adjusted the current yield as follows ENE PRa 12.8% ENE PRc 12.8% ME PRa 9.9% XLC PR 8.9% market prices range from about $15 to about $25. My exposure is only 2 (yes two) shares of each issue. I got them more for the education that they will give me than for the income. The income they pay is from some form of partnership. Income from a partnership means that you will get a K-1 from these folks, NOT a 1099-Int, NOR a 1099-div. Since I prepare income tax returns, the educational value is in filling out my own tax return with three different issuer's K-1s, some of which will vary radically from the standard IRS K-1 format.
