Great News: WaveRider Introduces High Performance NCL1170 Wireless Bridge/Router
TORONTO, ONTARIO, MAY 3, 2001 (CCN Newswire via COMTEX) -- Proprietary WaveRider Technology Offers Transmit Power Of 25 Decibels And Eliminates The Need For External Amplifiers
WaveRider Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: WAVC), a global provider of fixed wireless Internet access products, today launched its NCL1170, the latest advancement in the WaveRider NCL wireless bridge/router family. The NCL1170 enables Internet Service Providers, carriers and organizations to establish a network of high-speed communication links between multiple points and to form the basis to build out larger, more advance networks.
The NCL1170 delivers data throughput speeds up to 8 megabits per second (Mbps) with over-the-air data transfer rates of 11 Mbps. It is the first 11 Mbps wireless bridge/router to offer transmit power up to +25 dBm (decibels), which eliminates the need for external amplifiers.
"The NCL1170 offers excellent radio performance, enabling high-speed data transfer to more points over greater distances," said Charles Brown, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, WaveRider Communications Inc.
WaveRider's NCL1170 received Industry Canada approval in February 2001 and was granted Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval in March. WaveRider will submit the new product for Ministry of Information Industry (MII) approval in China this month.
NCL1170 Product Features
The NCL1170 enables reliable broadband connections between two or more corporate computer networks, outlying offices, and the Internet. The NCL1170 uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology and operates in the license-exempt 2.4 GHz band.
The +25 dBm transmit power offered by the NCL1170 eliminates the need for expensive external amplifiers. Traditionally, users would deploy amplifiers to increase the range of their wireless bridge/router signal, which typically introduce noises and signal compression that can actually degrade the radio performance.
The high performance radio enables the NCL1170 to support wireless communications to 30 stations each at distances up to 10-miles. Under FCC regulations, a single NCL1170 can provide coverage for a service area of more than 150 square miles using an omnidirectional antenna.
Easy network upgrades
"The NCL1170 is a cost-effective business solution for any sized company," said Brown. "Service providers can introduce wireless connectivity to a small number of commercial customers, and easily upgrade to a more sophisticated network that includes advanced network management features without having to replace the original NCL1170 equipment at the customer site."
With a simple software upgrade, performed remotely from the operator's site, the NCL1170 can be converted to an end-user modem that is compatible with WaveRider's Last Mile Solution(R) (LMS) family of products. This feature enables operators to expand or upgrade their wireless networks to WaveRider's LMS advanced network-managed systems, protecting the operator's initial investment in its NCL1170 network.
