WaveRider wide area wireless networks is a company pioneering wireless INTERNET hookup systems. They are doing research and prototyping of wireless internet systems which will significantly reduce costs for the Internet Service Provider (ISP). They are currently in the startup phase for commissioning manufacturing of product and have significant orders pending worldwide...see post number 2, this thread for information on a US$32 million distribution agreement signed in early July, 1997. They are using unique, breakthrough, wireless technology. Patents are being applied for on this technology. Utilizes spread spectrum modems as a cost effective, reliable alternative to telephone company provided local loops and dedicated lines. Spread Spectrum Radio Technology establishes disaster-resistant communications links, and was initially established for military purposes, where wire and fiberoptic cable are susceptible to disruption due to a variety of reasons. The technology is resistant to jamming and interference, detection and interception. The system is capable of transmitting full digital motion and sound data in an encrypted, secure environment. The combination of frequency hopping and direct sequence spread spectrum utilized in these products make interception and detection virtually impossible. Significant interest is being shown by ISP's, financial institutions, governmental and para-governmental organizations as well as corporate network managers and system integrators world wide. Benefits to ISP's and end users are significant and include: * wireless, eliminates consumer need for local telephone loops or other expensive cabling systems. * easily deployed, excellent for high and low density populations. * economical, reduces ISP operating costs significantly. Local loop services account for up to 45% of an ISP's costs - these will be eliminated. Simplicity of operations will significantly reduce ISP intervention for maintenance. * Speed...High (maximim data rate of 10Mbs.)and Low (increments of 40.9 Kbps) speed internet access to serve the customer's need for speed. Access is virtually instant at .4 to .5 of a second. Mail is alerted to the end user's wireless modem.
