Hi Kirk,......I quit bashing GM because I do like their vehicles. The GM 350cc engine probably the best engine ever made. ( I read somewhere that they have made over 60 million of those engines) Right behind that I would put the GM 4.3 litre vortex engine as also outstanding. A little bit of routine maintenance goes a long way

Volvos seem to hold up very well, with minimal rust problems.

Some of the foreign car makers are putting plastic panels on the lower half of the doors so its hard to determine
rust damage (eg Subaru).

The one company that takes corrosion seriously is Honda. You may recall that about 30 years age there were Honda Civics rusting through the top of the front fenders. After numerous lawsuits Honda got the message about rust prevention. The Honda 1.8 Ltr engine is one of the best available. Getting 300,000 miles from of those engines is routine.

Honda (HMC) is at the bottom of a trough at $34.00 a share. But it pays a skimpy 1.1% dividend and trades on low volume. (700 K shares a day).

As a general rule auto stocks have a low beta, (except for GM) and are not ideal for options, or short term trade swings.

As mentioned by ETF1 oil stocks. manufacturing, and health care are the top areas of interest to hedge fund managers at the current time.
