The Federal Medicare program is the "mother of all" cost shifters.....problem is as you say, you can shift cost from one group to another, but sooner or later somebody has to pay up. I agree with you, this ponzi scheme of a program has the potential to cause irreparable damage to our health care system. I can't imagine a government program telling me that I have to accept "assignment" (price control) for services that I render. It's interesting if you consider that plastic surgeons for the most part don't have that problem and yet most are competitive in their fee schedule (free market). We still have the best medical services in the world, but it will not continue if we do not allow free market principles to work. bp
