GOOFI Commodity Report: Tungsten (Preliminary Assessment- Political, Economic Implications... I learned in junior high school to give reports important looking titles, forget the material within. End uses of tungsten include metalworking, mining, and construction machinert 74%; electrical and electronic machinery, and transportation 10%; lamps and lighting 9%; chemical 4%; other 3%. The properties of high melting point and strength give tungsten strategic importance in both military (tank armor) and industrial (welding) markets. Here's the joker in the deck: 45% of the world's production comes from China; the next largest supplier is Russia (data was not current, but resources in Russia have been established). A couple of political events and the tungsten market could evaporate. Any ideas, anyone? TBG, Paul
