I was in a college dorm room in Austin, TX, studying for an exam in my upcoming 2:00 class. I heard someone rushing down the hallway shouting, "They shot Kennedy .. and Connally!" I didn't have a TV, so I turned on my radio and before long heard the announcement, "John Fitzgerald Kennedy is dead. He was the 35th President of the United States," followed by the playing of the National Anthem. I went to the 2:00 class, where the exam had been cancelled. A closed-circuit TV in the classroom was turned to a local station with Walter Cronkite describing the events.
